Library Information: Using the Library

Mission

Our focus is information literacy.  Student success is our goal.

Library Information

Audio Visual Equipment - The library has CD, DVD and Blu-ray players, as well as a VCR, available next to the periodicals area in the library.  To use the equipment, please check out a remote and headphones at the Circulation Desk.

Computers - The library offers 37 computers equipped with Microsoft (2010) Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Firefox, and various other programs/software.  You will need to login with your MCC credentials to use the library computers.  If you do not have an MCC username and password, please see a library staff member for guest access.

Fines - Overdue materials are subject to a flat fine of $3 per item.

Food - Please enjoy your food away from the library computers, and limit beverages at computers to those in closable/covered containers such as spill-proof coffee mugs, pop bottles, and water bottles.

Group Study Space - The library does not have group study rooms but you can study in groups at the round tables in the library's instruction area (when there is not a class).  Collaboration and talking in a manner respectful to other library users is expected.

Inter Library Loan - Didn't find what you were looking for at MCC or from another I-Share library (for MCC employees and students)? Request an interlibrary loan to borrow an item from another library.

Library Cards - To check out library materials you will need an MCC Library card. Library cards are free and available to all students of MCC and community members over the age of 16 who live within the college district.  With a valid photo ID, you can sign up for a library card at the Circulation Desk.

Loan Periods - Circulating books may be checked out for 28 days. Magazines and DVDs may be checked out for 7 days (TV series DVDs circulate for 14 days).  Most materials may be renewed.

Photocopying - You can make copies in the library for $ .10 per page.

Printing - All library computers are networked to black and white printers.  The first 25 pages per day are free to print. Color printing is not currently available in the library, but may be available in a computer lab.  Click here for more information about the Academic Computing Labs.

Quiet Study Space - The tables in the library stacks are reserved for quiet study.

Renewals - Most items may be renewed, as long as there are no holds, blocks, recalls, etc. Contact the Circulation Desk at 815-455-8533 or  log in to your account in the library's online catalog to renew your items.

Reserves - Instructors sometimes place materials on "reserve" in the library.  These items have limited loan periods and must be requested at the Circulation Desk.

Returns - Return materials to the MCC Library at the following locations: Library Circulation (A212), purple return box outside of the library doors or the purple return box located outside Building A Entrance.

Scanning - A scanner is available at the stand up computer station near the circulation desk. Please click on the following link for instructions on how to use the Scanner.

Textbook Reserves - The library has some of the textbooks used in MCC classes on reserve. These textbooks may be checked out from the Circulation Desk for one hour in-library use.

Wireless - Students have access to the "MCC-Wireless" network with their MyMCC login information.  Community members have access to the "MCC-Open" network for short-tern use.  For longer guest wifi access, see a library staff member at the Circulation Desk.  More information is available here.

Wireless Printing - For those who would like to print from their own devices, a wireless printer is available near the circulation desk. Click on the following link for instructions on how to use the Wireless Printer.
