Reading Apps

Flipster (Android & iOS)

Flipster connects you with digital magazines (provided by the MCC library). You can access popular titles and download issues for offline reading.

You'll need a library card to use this app. When you first open the app, you will have to search for McHenry County College. When you select McHenry County College from the list, you'll then be asked to enter the number on your MCC library card.

Axis 360 (Android & iOS)

You'll need Axis 360 to access eRead Illinois eBooks on Android, iOS, or Kindle Fire devices (learn more about setting up the app and checking out eBooks).

Note: If you are using a Kobo Reader, Nook GlowLight, Mac desktop, or PC desktop device, you will instead use Adobe Digital Editions (more info).

Google Play Books (Android & iOS)

Access over 4 million titles with this app, including new releases and free classics.

Amazon Kindle (Android & iOS)

You can access thousands of free classics and all of your Amazon ebooks with this app.

Feedly (Android & iOS)

Stay up to date with your favorite blogs, magazines and more. Feedly is one of the best RSS readers available for iOS or Android (what is an RSS feed?).

BARD Mobile (Android & iOS)

Access nearly 65,000 talking books, magazines, and braille music scores free of charge from the NLS Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD) site.

Audio Books from Audible (Android & iOS)

Audible, a subsidiary of Amazon, is the worlds largest audiobook retailer. Access over 180,000 audiobooks, podcasts, and more.

Mendeley (Android & iOS)

You can use this app to read, annotate, and organize your PDFs. A free Mendeley account is required to use this app.

CamScanner (Android & iOS)

Scan documents using your phone's camera. The app allows you to save documents as a PDF or JPEG.

Evernote Scannable (iOS)

Another scanner app with OCR (optical character recognition) capabilities. This app must be linked with Evernote.

Office Lens (Android & iOS)

With Office Lens you can easily scan documents with your phone's camera and save them to OneDrive or OneNote. This app allows you to save a scanned document as a PDF, Excel, or Word file.
