This guide provides guidance for evaluating sources of information for academic research. Primary, secondary, scholarly, and popular sources are discussed, as well as tools/rubrics to use when evaluating information sources.

Objectives

  • Understand formats and various types of information, including primary and secondary, popular and scholarly sources.
  • Use criteria to evaluate the accuracy of information, identify bias, and determine the appropriateness for academic assignments.
  • Select appropriate resources/tools to identify and locate information for academic assignments.
