Audio Visual Equipment - The library has CD, DVD and Blu-ray players, and a VCR available next to the Periodicals area in the library. To use the equipment, please check out a remote and headphones at the Circulation Desk.
Computers - The library offers 37 computers equipped with Microsoft (2016) Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Firefox, and various other programs/software. You will need to login with your MCC credentials to use the library computers. If you do not have an MCC username and password, please see a library staff member for guest access.
Donations - The primary goal of collection development at the McHenry County College Library is to build a library collection that addresses the needs of the college community and supports student success. The MCC library accepts donations, applying the same criteria as with the purchase of materials. Donations may be added to the collection or they may be donated to our MCC chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (International Honor Society) at the discretion of the Cataloging & Collection Development Librarian. Fax Machine - The MCC Library doesn’t have a fax machine available for public use, but there are a number of free online services that can be used to send a fax. Please select the following link for more information on how to send a fax via a free online service.
Fines - Overdue materials are subject to a flat fine of $3 per item.
Food - Please enjoy your food away from the library computers, and limit beverages at computers to those in closable/covered containers such as spill-proof coffee mugs, pop bottles, and water bottles.
Group Study Space - The library does not have group study rooms but you can study in groups at the round tables in the library's instruction area (when not in use for a class). Collaboration and talking in a manner respectful to other library users is expected.
Interlibrary Loan - Didn't find what you were looking for at MCC or from another I-Share library (for MCC employees and students)? Ask Library staff how to place a hold on materials from other I-Share libraries or to request an interlibrary loan.
Library Cards - To check out library materials you will need an MCC Library card. Library cards are free and available to all students of MCC and community members over the age of 16 who live within the college district. With a valid photo ID, you can sign up for a library card at the Circulation Desk.
Loan Periods - Circulating books may be checked out for 28 days. Magazines and DVDs may be checked out for 7 days. TV series and DVDs circulate for 14 days. Most materials may be renewed.
Photocopying - You can make copies in the library for $ .10 per page.
Printing - All library computers are networked to black and white printers. The first 25 pages per day are free to print. The Library also offer wireless black and white printing inside the library. Ask Library staff for instructions. Color printing is not currently available in the library, but may be available in the Academic Computing Lab.
Quiet Study Space - The tables in the library stacks are reserved for quiet study.
Renewals - Most items may be renewed, as long as there are no holds, blocks, recalls, etc. Contact the Circulation Desk at 815-455-8533 or log in to your account in the library's online catalog to renew your items.
Reserves - Instructors sometimes place course materials on "reserve" in the library. These items have limited loan periods. Request course reserves at the Circulation Desk.
Returns - Return materials to the MCC Library at the following locations: Library Circulation (A212), purple return box outside of the library doors or the purple return box located outside Building A Entrance.
Scanning - A scanner is available at the stand-up computer station near the circulation desk. Please click on the following link for instructions on how to use the Scanner.
Textbook Reserves - The library has some of the textbooks used in MCC classes on reserve. These textbooks may be checked out from the Circulation Desk for one hour in-library use.
Wi-Fi - Students have access to the MCC-Wireless network with their myMCC login information. Community members have access to the MCC-Open network for short-term use. For longer guest wi-fi access, see a library staff member at the Circulation Desk. More information is available here.
Wireless Printing - For those who would like to print from their own devices, a wireless printer is available near the Circulation Desk. Click on the following link for instructions on how to use the Wireless Printer.
