Using the Library

Group Study Space - The library does not have group study rooms but you can study in groups at the tables in the library's instruction area (when not in use for a class) and at the tables before you enter the stacks. Collaboration and talking in a manner respectful to other library users is expected.

Quiet Study Space - Seating in the library stacks is reserved for quiet study.

Research Assistance  Librarians can help with:

  • Research strategies
  • Evaluating sources
  • Using a research tool or database
  • Finding information on a specific topic
  • Citing sources

Ask for help at the reference desk or via Ask a Librarian.

Food - You may eat in the library, but please enjoy your food away from the library computers, and limit beverages at computers to those in closable/covered containers such as spill-proof coffee mugs, pop bottles, and water bottles.

Checking Out Library Materials

Library Cards - To check out library materials, you need an MCC Library card. This is separate from your student ID card. Library cards are free and available to all students of MCC and community members over the age of 16 who live within the college district. With a valid photo ID or student ID, you can sign up for a library card at the Circulation Desk.

Renewals - Most items may be renewed, as long as there are no holds, blocks, recalls, etc. Contact the Circulation Desk at 815-455-8533 or  log in to your account in the library's online catalog to renew your items.

Returns - Return materials to the MCC Library at the following locations: Library Circulation (A212) or the return box located outside Building A Entrance.

Interlibrary Loan - Didn't find what you were looking for at MCC or from another I-Share library? Ask Library staff how to place a hold on materials from other libraries. Ask Circulation for more details.
