Common Citation Examples

Book - Print

Author’s last name, First name. Title of Book. Publisher, Year of Publication.

Example:

Ondaatje, Michael. The English Patient: A Novel. Vintage Books, 1993.

 


Scholarly Journal Article (electronic or library database)

Author Last Name, Author First Name, “Title of Article.” Title of Journal, volume, issue, date, pp. Name of Database, DOI number.

Example:

  Chen, Yen-Shao, and Tauhid Zaman. “Shaping Opinions in Social Networks with Shadow Banning.” PLoS ONE, vol. 19, no. 3, Mar. 2024, pp. 1–30. EBSCOhost, https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0299977.

NOTE:

When there's more than one author, only the first author is listed last name, first name. Subsequent authors are listed first name, last name.


Article from a General Website

Author Last name, Author First Name. “Title of Article.” Title of Web Site. Date of publication, URL. Date accessed.

Example:

Interview - Personal

List the interview by the name of the interviewee. Include the descriptor Personal interview and the date of the interview.

Author Last Name, Author First Name. Personal interview. Date of interview.

Example:

Smith, Jane. Personal interview. 19 May 2014.

Published Interviews (Print or Broadcast)

Example:
