Database Searching

Welcome to the MCC Library!

As you are doing your research for HCE 111, you'll be working your way through the research process.

  • Choose a topic
  • Brainstorm keywords
  • Select a database to search
  • Refine your search
  • Save PDFs of articles you like

We are here to help you with your research. Please view the videos and follow the steps below to get started, then complete the searching worksheet in Canvas. If you have questions or need help, just ask a librarian!

Keywords

Keywords are the search terms that you will use to create your search strategy for the database. These building blocks will help you piece together your research. In a perfect world you'd enter your search terms into the search box in the database and you'd get five perfect articles back. What usually happens, though, is that you don't get what you were expecting and you have to refine your search. View the video and use the worksheet below (click link to open on your device) to generate additional keywords.
