Military Families & Veterans Month (November)

About Military Families Month

National Military Families Month is observed throughout November to honor and recognize the commitment, resilience, and sacrifices made by families of U.S. service members across all branches of the military. This annual observance, which began in 1996, is marked by a presidential proclamation each year. During this month, communities and organizations nationwide celebrate military families through events, programs, and initiatives, highlighting the unique challenges they face—such as frequent relocations, long separations, and adjusting to new environments.

Military families play a vital role in supporting their loved ones and sustaining the country's defense and strength. National Military Families Month encourages everyone to honor these families, show appreciation, and provide support, acknowledging that families also serve alongside service members.

About Veteran's Day

Veterans Day is a federal holiday observed annually on November 11 to honor all military veterans who have served in the United States Armed Forces. The date commemorates the armistice that ended World War I, which took effect at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918. Originally known as Armistice Day, it was established to recognize the heroism and sacrifice of those who served in WWI. In 1954, the holiday was renamed Veterans Day to honor veterans of all wars and branches, reflecting the broader spectrum of service. Today, Veterans Day is marked by ceremonies, parades, and gatherings nationwide, as communities pause to express gratitude to veterans for their patriotism, service, and sacrifice.
