Just because information comes from AI doesn't mean that it can be trusted (and we have lots of reasons not to). Source Evaluation is the focus of our Comp I information literacy instruction and we ask our students to rely on the skills they learned there to think critically about AI-generated responses.
- Consider the source of the information: What dataset has the AI been trained on?
- Consider the systemic bias: What dataset has the AI been trained on? What bias exists in the algorithm?
- Where are the sources coming from: Are the sources from the internet? Are the sources from a database or other defined set?
