About This Guide

This guide will help direct you to good quality resources for book presentations, learn about book awards, and find web sites that will help you understand the different genres in children’s literature. The tabs are organized by genre.

The juvenile fiction books are labeled with JUV and the first three letters of the author's last name. Juvenile nonfiction books are labeled JUV plus a call number.

Tips on Finding Children's Books in the Library Catalog

When searching for children's books in the library catalog, after you execute your search:

  • Filter Resource Type by Books.
  • Filter Availability by Available Online or Held By Library. Books available online can be accessed through a library database at any time without a library card. Books held by the library are available in the stacks and can be checked out with an MCC library card during the library's open hours.

Picture books

Search picture books. Filter Subject by Picture Books.

Fantasy

Search fantasy. Filter Subject by any of the options shown, like magic or dragons.

Poetry

Search children's poetry. Filter Subject by any of the options shown, like nursery rhymes or African Americans Poetry.

Realistic Fiction

Search realistic fiction. Filter Subject by any of the juvenile options listed.

Historical Fiction

Search juvenile fiction historical. Filter Subject by any of the options listed.

Nonfiction

Search nonfiction. Filter Subject by any of the juvenile options listed.
