Respiratory Therapy Research Guide

About This Guide

The MCC Library offers a variety of digital resources specifically designed to help you excel in your Respiratory Therapist coursework. Here are two valuable library resources you can rely on throughout your program.

CINAHL Ultimate (EBSCO)

  • What it offers: Full-text access to more than 2,000 current journals covering over 50 fields, including nursing, respiratory care, and allied health professions. You’ll find research studies, evidence-based clinical reviews, case reports, career advice, and best practices for patient care.
  • How to use it: Turn to CINAHL Ultimate for your assignments, research projects, and to stay up to date with the latest developments in respiratory therapy, patient safety, pulmonary diseases, and healthcare advancements. It’s especially useful when you need peer-reviewed, evidence-based information about respiratory care topics, cardiopulmonary anatomy, mechanical ventilation, or new treatment protocols. Begin your search with keywords like “mechanical ventilation,” “asthma management,” or “neonatal respiratory care.” Remember to filter for full-text and the most recent articles.

Human Anatomy: Gale Interactive

  • What it offers: An interactive online platform with 3D models of the human body, allowing you to virtually “dissect” and examine structures like the airways, lungs, diaphragm, and thoracic organs in great detail.
  • How to use it: Use this resource to gain a deeper understanding of human anatomy as it relates to respiratory therapy—perfect for visualizing the respiratory system, reviewing airway anatomy, or studying the effects of disease processes on lung function. It’s ideal for prepping for exams, labs, or clinical rotations. You can rotate and zoom in on models—try focusing on anatomical regions that align with your current coursework or clinical interests.

Tip: Both resources can be accessed online using your library’s portal. Use them to support assignments, improve your understanding of respiratory therapy techniques, and prepare for both coursework and clinical practice.

Use the Find Sources tab on the left to learn about database search strategies and additional databases that will be helpful for your coursework.

Remember, the library is here to help you along the way! If you have a research question, use the Get Help from a Librarian tab to start a chat or schedule a research appointment.
