Naming Guides

Subject Guides should be named after the college program or area of study.  Use the course catalog for the correct names.  Examples of guides named for area of study include English, Music, and Science. Guides named after programs include Paralegal, Health Information Technology, Emergency Medical Services, etc.  If a guide is to cover several related programs or areas of study, make sure the name is broad enough to cover all those areas.  For example, business includes marketing, management, and entrepreneurship.  Foreign languages includes German, Spanish, and French.

All subject guides should be listed alphabetically on the Research Guides by Subject page.

Guides for specific courses or assignments should be listed on the subject page to which they pertain.  They should be named using the three digit course code, course number, a colon, and brief description of the topic or assignment.  If possible, these guides should be hidden during semesters when they are not in use.

For example:

HFE 250: Fad Diets

ENG 152: Hemingway

ENG 151: Online Dating

Occasionally, a guide will need to be created that does not fit the usual criteria.  Some examples of these are the Leisure Reading Guide and Sustainability Guide.  Generally, these guides are listed on the Research Guides by Subject page.
